What is GREAT?

We don't normally talk politics with our members, but this is a special opportunity for our members to advocate for, and with, First Alliance Credit Union to ensure all legislators and regulators across the political spectrum hear from credit unions and their members about the issues that directly impact us, as a credit union family.  Become a credit union advocate through GREAT!

What is GREAT?

The Grass Roots Education & Action Team (GREAT) is an online tool used to communicate credit union issues to state and federal legislators. GREAT provides credit union supporters a way to help preserve, protect and promote Minnesota Credit Unions.

Why Should I Join GREAT?

The credit union model is unique in the financial services marketplace: Credit Unions are not for profit, member-owned, local and trusted. The quality service, fairly priced products, and financial education that we offer to members is worth advocating for.

Credit Unions are a highly regulated industry. Competition in the financial services marketplace, consumer protections and rules, and the products and services that a credit union can offer are directly affected by legislators and policy makers. It's important that you, as a credit union member, have a say. GREAT ensures credit union members have a strong, unified voice in legislative regulatory decisions.

GREAT is pro credit union and party neutral. All legislators and regulators need to hear about your best financial partner. It does not matter what your political affiliation is: GREAT's goal is simply to create an environment for credit unions to thrive and grow. Legislators and regulators across the political spectrum need to hear from us.  In fact, the Credit Union National Association has one of the most bipartisan political action committees.

How Does It Work?

There is no time or monetary commitment to joining GREAT.  Occasionally, GREAT members will be contacted by email, and asked to contact their elected officials by email, about a particular issue related to the credit union movement. This task can be complete in about five clicks of a mouse.

With each request, GREAT members receive a sample message to use when communicating with elected officials. (We'll even help you determine who they are if you are unsure.) Supporters can quickly and easily send a message to lawmakers.

How Do I Sign Up?

Simply visit greatcreditunions.org and complete the information in the "Quick Sign Up" box. Or, fill out the GREAT postcard at your local credit union branch.
