What is an Associate Board Member?
Associate Board Members may not be full members of the governing Board or Supervisory Committee just yet, but they do make a big difference in how things run! They're treated just like Board and/or Supervisory members in every way, except they don't get to vote at Board meetings. They can join in on committees and even vote there, as long as it doesn't lock the Credit Union into a specific decision or action. We count on Associate Directors to act like Board and/or Supervisory members and stick to the same standards as Board and Supervisory members.
We also encourage them to join in and contribute to Board and/or Supervisory committee meetings, Board retreats, and educational planning sessions, and may occasionally be included in Executive Sessions or closed committee meetings.
When a governing seat on the Board or Supervisory Committee opens, Associate Board Members should be ready to step up and fill the role.

What is the role of the Supervisory Committee?
Being a Supervisory Committee member at a credit union is a rewarding volunteer role where you get to help make sure everything runs smoothly and members' assets are well-protected. As a committee member, you'll be checking that the financial statements are spot-on and that the management practices are up to scratch to keep everyone's assets safe. Plus, you'll ensure the credit union is following all the necessary laws and regulations. You'll join in on regular quarterly meetings with the Supervisory Committee and have the option to join monthly board meeting. It's great if you have strong leadership and business skills, especially in areas like auditing, risk management, IT, business finance, HR, or legal compliance.

I serve on the board because I believe in the power of community and the strength we wield together. We’re not just merely volunteers; we’re champions for financial empowerment, ready to challenge the status quo and ensure every member has a voice. Together, we’re driving innovation and protecting a lasting impact that transforms lives of each and every First Alliance member that comes through our doors.

I am grateful to serve on the Supervisory Committee to ensure that First Alliance remains fiscally responsible and compliant with regulations, so we can continue to meet the evolving needs of our members with integrity and trust
