However, most of us don't have the budget to lavishly decorate and furnish our homes. In order to help you have a well decorated home you can be proud of, we have put together these tips for decorating on a budget.

Tip 1: Hide the clutter

No matter how well your home is decorated, organization is going to be key in showing off your home. Find inexpensive way to get your clutter out of sight by hanging curtains, or install shelves and doors where needed. Buy decorative baskets to help organize loose items. The less clutter you have around your house the more open and spacious your home will feel.

Tip 2: Buy furniture with multiple uses

You can save money by having everything serve a dual purpose. For example, buy ottomans with built-in storage or a wardrobe with a mirror on the doors. This also helps save on space and keeps the clutter hidden (bonus!).

Tip 3: Find the bargains

Take time to find great bargains at a hotel liquidator, a thrift store, an estate sale or a garage sale. Affordable furniture is out there, it just takes to find the perfect bargain pieces for your home. Don't just jump on something because it's affordable either, make sure the item will fit with your current décor and your budget.

Tip 4: Do it yourself

Making your own furniture and décor can save you money and be very rewarding. Depending upon the item your tying to make you can save a lot of money by building a table or shelf yourself. Plus, you can make it fit your space just they way you need it to. Just be careful you don't end up spending more than you would have to just of simply purchase a ready made item.

Tip 5: Sign up for sale alerts

You can use shopping apps to set a sale alert for products and you’ll be emailed when the item goes on sale. Online retailers like Overstock and Amazon will also alert you when something goes on sale or has return after being out of stock. If you have your heart set on something that is out of your price range, watch for it to go on sale.

Tip 6: Re-purpose what you already have

As awesome as custom curtains or a vintage sofa may be, they are not for a decorator on a budget. Instead, consider customizing what you already own. Add some pop to plain curtains with iron-on trim. Add some flair to a simple end table by painting the edges to accent the other colors in your room. Move your furniture around to create a new feel in the room.

Tip 7: Paint it

Painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to transform your rooms. You can paint all kinds of things from the walls to furniture to cupboards. You can quickly and easily give your boring kitchen cabinets a face lift buy adding a fresh coat of paint. Don't like the color of your bookshelf, paint it. Want the picture frames to a different color, paint them.

Tip 8: Check out local art programs

The right piece of art can really elevate your room, but you know you can’t afford an original Picasso. Instead invest in some up-and-coming local talent. Try contacting your local college art program to see if there are any upcoming student art shows where you can purchase pieces inexpensively or possibly pay a student to create something special for you. You could event try painting something yourself, who knows you may love it!

Tip 9: Shop at Flea Markets

Start shopping at antique stores and flea markets, you can often find deals on very unique pieces. Some are perfect as they are and others can be easily updated and customized with very little additional expense simply by adding a coat of paint, new knobs, or a lamp shade.

Tip 10: Less is more

There is a such thing as over decorating. Keeping your designs simple, not only helps keep costs down, but also makes your room look more inviting. Too many pictures on the wall or competing colors can make a room look smaller and feel cluttered.

Summary

Staying on budget when decorating your home is important. Don't expect your home to look perfect over night, take time to plan your decorating budget for each room of your home and stick to it. Getting creative with how you use your space can keep you from having to spend hundred of dollars on fancy storage solutions.
