This October, First Alliance Credit Union is giving children and parents alike a new way to connect on finances. The credit union has partnered with Greenlight, the debit card and money app for kids, and is offering it as a perk for members.

What to know about the partnership between First Alliance Credit Union and Greenlight

First Alliance Greenlight partnership

When you sign up for Greenlight, your child gets their own debit card, as well as a mobile app to help manage it. This app lets children see how much money is in their debit card balance, helps them set up savings goals and even shows them what chores they must do each week to get their allowance.

Parents get their own version of the Greenlight app, too. It’s connected to the child’s card and gives them real-time notifications when their child makes a purchase. It also lets parents set limits on where children can use their cards and how much they can spend on each transaction. Additionally, parents can transfer money to their child’s debit card and even set up how much their child will get for each chore.

In addition to giving children hands-on experience with managing money, Greenlight also has several resources to help kids learn about financial literacy. Videos, quizzes and other lessons will help children learn about how to save, invest and spend wisely, among other topics.

“Greenlight is a valuable tool for parents trying to raise financially smart kids,” said Danielle Sommerfeldt, First Alliance Credit Union’s member experience manager. “It helps children learn how to manage their own money, but also gives parents the ability to oversee their child’s spending habits without constantly looking over their child’s shoulder.”

First Alliance Credit Union members will be able to sign up for Greenlight either by talking with a member experience advisor at any First Alliance branch or by visiting the First Alliance website at https://resources.firstalliancecu.com/greenlight-kids-debit-card
